Ask the candidates a question
New retail develeopments and improvements in our existing areas of commerce will increase sales tax revenues for the city dramatically, as well as provide a boost to tourism and living standards. This will then allow the city to reduce our property tax rates while improving city services at the same time. Do you agree with this statement, and what incentives do you believe need to be offered to new and existing businesses to make it happen?
Gregg Hill
This is true and I think every citizen in our city agrees with these statements. There are numerous incentives that the city can offer, however it requires the city council working with the city manager and mayor to approve these in advance of offering them to businesses. As a council member I would research and help ensure the city comes up with realistic incentives that entice new business but does not have adverse effects on our citizens.

That is absolutely a true statement and what I’ve always said. We have to remember that we have to continue to build new homes to add to the city’s customer base to attract new businesses. As a city council we have to be very careful and not make the big mistakes other cities have and gave away the farm for years. That is not in the tax payers best interest. The council needs to listen to the new business needs and any tax incentitives needs to work for the city as well. If we can add new businesses without a doubt will lower property taxes.

I do indeed agree with the statement. The Chamber and EDC are always looking for businesses that will move to our location and the EDC is prepared to offer incentives with the approval of City Council to entice the owners to move their business here. Several factors need to be look at before we start offering business incentives to move here. One fact to be look at is this business a fly by night operation or a solid business that will establish itself here. Another issue is the cost effectives of the incentive and the tax revenues from this business. To make a blank statement to the owners as to what we will give them to move here or stay here is a double edge sword. The City Council should consider all facts before making this decision.
