Yes 100% ( & I’ve been kicked in the back side for this ), I’ve got some deep feelings there that we did NOT educate the citizens as to how we might finance that Rec. Center and it failed I believe because of that.
So we go back to the drawing board & have a council work shop on the Rec. Center that the same kids / coaches / citizens that was at a town hall meeting back in 2007 may have a chance to address their needs and desires.
We ask for a finance pledge from our counties (yes even Lampasas), EDC, CCISD and if the YMCA wants to be part of it even them, any thing to off set the cost and put it back to the vote of the citizens to get the $$$$ approved.

We need to expand our recreational facilities and our activities responsibly. We received a Texas Park and Wildlife grant and we need to have plans to expand our facilities in phases and the money budgeted for a realistic expansion without new taxes or fees to the citizens. Instead of trying to build a complete facility with indoor pools, recreation rooms, outdoor pool and track, we need to prioritize the needs and build these capabilities in phases. I support improving our recreational activities and facilities. I feel the city does not put enough effort or time in locating and obtaining grants before we add new taxes. Grants are there we just need to find them.

This is an important matter for all the citizens. Being that the city motto is “The City Build for Family Living”, we need to plan a community that is, in fact, a city where you would WANT to raise your family. Parks are not the entire answer. We must have the services that are needed by families and businesses alike. Doctors, Lawyers, Health Clinics, Park areas where pets can run and sports fields for different sports, a swimming pool for our community to enjoy. We must sit down and plan and stick to the plan.

I totally support expanding our recreational activities and facilities. Our parks are in sad shape. We have room build 3 ball fields and at least two soccer fields at City Park. We need to upgrade the water system and the lighting system as well as new score boards. The problem is that our overall recreational needs have been ignored for so long I don’t feel the funds are available in one budget year. So you probably need something like a 5 year Parks plan.

Recreational activities and facilities are a benefit residents of any city desire, and this is especially true to the residents of Cove with its motto of “A city built for family living” if that is truly what we are. I support the maintenance and enhancement of these services with an understanding that they come at a cost via tax dollars. These costs though can be shared though by minimal fees for certain usage of these facilities such as the pools, recreational centers, and facilities for special events. However our parks and playgrounds should be free and their use welcomed by the citizens. They provide the citizens an opportunity to enjoy the benefits of their tax dollars and to be an active part of the city, and an opportunity to be part of their community.
